These plants want steady moisture the first season

  • Delivery is driveway drop-off, water plants the same day if you can, even before they’re in the ground.
  • Mulch 2–3 inches after planting to hold moisture; keep mulch off stems and trunks.
  • First season is establishment season: regular deep water beats frequent light sprinkles.
  • When in doubt, dig a small hole next to the root ball, bone dry means water; muddy means wait.

Deep soak 1–2 times a week the first season so roots chase moisture down. A quick daily splash trains shallow roots and stress.
